Konami has officially announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s new stealth-based multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, won’t launch with the game on August 28. They gave no exact release date for the new mode, but have offered a fall 2025 release window.
Specifics about Fox Hunt’s core gameplay are still being kept under wraps, but the Snake Eater site does offer some details in the form of references to existing Metal Gear mechanics.
“[Fox Hunt] utilizes the fundamentals of one of the popular game rules from METAL GEAR ONLINE and the sneaking gameplay elements iconic to the METAL GEAR series, and the latest graphical enhancements that amplifies the tension of hide-and-seek to a whole new level.”
Additionally, the team’s goal to set Fox Hunt apart from other online shooters was made apparent during the Konami Press Start Broadcast last June.
“We challenged ourselves to make something unique that is more than just a shootout.” Yu Sahara, Fox Hunt’s game director, said. “We’ve used that back-and-forth tension of staying hidden or searching out the enemy to create an online experience unique to Metal Gear.”
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, launches on August 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. While Fox Hunt won’t be included at launch, this gives players plenty of time to focus on the game’s main campaign which is recognized as one of the best stories the Metal Gear series has ever produced.
