Resident Evil Requiem lets players choose between third- and first-person POV

Coming off the announcement of Resident Evil Requiem during Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom invited some press and content creators to try out a preview of the anticipated next chapter in the Resident Evil series. The ability to swap between third-person and first-person perspectives was then confirmed by several sources, including O’Dell Harmon Jr. from PlayStation.Blog.

Harmon Jr. described the feature in his write-up.

RE9’s first innovation comes straight from the options menu — players can choose whether to step into Grace Ashford’s shoes in first- or third-person perspective with a simple toggle. It’s a choice that ensures players will get to confront oncoming horrors in the playstyle they prefer.”

Many longtime fans have requested a return to third-person POV since the series opted for first-person in Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. Subsequently, although Resident Evil was mostly known as a third-person gaming experience, first-person POV would return in Resident Evil Village.

The ability to choose how players control the main protagonist, Grace Ashford, and see the world of Resident Evil Requiem is a surprising–and welcomed–change in the Resident Evil playbook. There are likely way more surprises ahead as we wait for Resident Evil Requiem's launch on February 27, 2026,
